These new tractors that keep popping up

Hey guys, what does anyone know about these new imported tractors that are turning up around here (Montana, LS, ect.). I imagine finding parts would be a nightmare. But they seem to be putting a dent in the sales of the John Deere and Kubota, for the smaller tractors 20 to 35 hp. I'm not looking for one but just curious.

Those small tractors are just glorified lawn
tractors. People who buy such things don't often
think about parts availability, etc. If they did
they would probably buy accordingly.

Anyway, I'd say if there is a market that 'values'
such cheap stuff, there'll be someone to sell it to
them.

I don't know anything about them but I know a few folks that have some of those Montana tractors. The way they abuse them they have to be tough. One guy pulls a 467 JD baler and put up over 1500 bales this year. Personally I'd rather have a 20 year old Case/IH, NewHolland or even a JD.

Interesting that I see TV ad's for Mahindra tractors (India ?).
The ad claims they are the largest selling tractor world wide.

I seem to remember others posting that the world wide sales record used to be held by Massy.

they are the largest selling indian tractor that is red and starts with the letter m, in the whole wide world and probably in the solar system, that is small and smells like curry.

Don't be quite so sure about what you say about them.

I have a 1720 Ford which has a physical size just a tad smaller than the old N series tractors and it is a real workhorse.

My land has sandy soil so implements don't pull like they would in clay, but it handles a 6 foot disc at 5 mph just as deep as I wish it to go, a 68" wide roto-tiller, 6' rotary mower cutting down weeds taller than me standing on the platform, etc.

Other than hydraulic hoses on the loader the only part I had to replace was a water pump, i.e. outside of the usual tractor replacements such as tires.

No problem getting a water pump for it and I'm happy to say I was pleased with the part and service provided by Yesterdays Tractors parts dept.

Last summer I moved 60 truck loads of dirt with it without a glitch of any sort.

Call it what you wish, but a glorified lawn mower sure wouldn't do what my tractor has done for me.

It all depends on how you count it. Total number of tractors? Dollar value? How big/small are you counting-- lawn tractors?

Mahindra sells over 10,000 tractors a month worldwide. Only a small number of those are in the USA, but that doesn't make them a small company. India is a massive market, and they are undergoing a revolution in mechanization of farming.

The reason Deere, AGCO, etc. have been building and buying factories in India has very little to do with exporting cheap compact utility models back the the USA. It is all about building and selling within India.

US population = 300 million.
India population = 1.1 billion.

Mahindra started as licensed builder of IHC tractors -British models. IHC B250, 275, 414/454? had matching Mahindra models. Old license deal has Mahindra making some spares to IHC specs and currently available through Case/NH/Fiat/McCormic/IHC -whatever they are calling themselves now. Some of the Mahindras go to former IHC dealers in some counties with a lesser tarif because of old agreement, others go to dealers simply because of parts matching and and old IHC mechs and manuals can be used at competitive price, a few get McCormic labels-- this explains some of their export sales. Quality control is supposed to be comparitively good, price on some models very good, old 1980 designs still very usable and newer models have some R&D sharing with British IHC/NH/Case/etc.

The blue "Limited Edition" ones that look like fords are actually built from original Ford designs. LS Tractors in Korea bought the assets from CNH (Fiat) and produced them in India and they were sold as Farmtrack tractors in North America. In 2008, LS/Escort sold the assets to Montana Tractors. Montana has put there name on them, but I think they may just be selling old stock and not actually producing any new ones. Hence, the "Limited Edition" name.

Montana also sells green tractors that look more modern. I think these are produced in Romania by a company called UTB.

I'm a bit interested in the Farmtrack / Montana Limited Edition tractors. The price is sure appealing anyway. The question remains as to which replacement parts are compatible with original Ford parts. When LS was selling them, they also offered brand new engines as drop-in replacements for existing Ford tractors, so I'm guessing they haven't changed too much.
