Fertilizer Wars?

I am seeing today that lawsuits are horizon with Potash Corp. of Canada, & an Australian company as well. Last week I heard on the radio something about China buying up one of the largest fertilizer deposits in the world in South America I think it was. After the purchase they announced that they WILL NOT SHARE ANY PORTION OF THAT OPERATION WITH ANY OTHER COUNTRY. That fertilizer is strictly for the Chinese People!!!

Of course this wont hurt us any... Yeah... Right!

I was at a meeting 2-3 years ago, Extension meeting on different farm stuff. One of the presenters was an ecconomics guy for the big fert company in Canada.

While he was so boring it about drove me to tears, the tears at least kept me awake.....

Anyhow, his hour presentation of numbers could be distilled down to, the corn maket is really good, so it should support whatever we charge for our fertilizer, not what it actually costs us to mine.

I bet they didn't let him out of the office ever again.

I"ve had visions of the same thing happening now, with the runup in grain prices- like a few years ago.....can you say, Mosaic? Nothing about justification, just because they could.

Potash Corp is the target of a buyout by another fert manuf. this company will potentially control 40% of the worlds potash. Think that won't change prices?
