Cotton picking pics

Here are some pics of my cotton picking trip back in april may. Fifth year working for this bloke and we coverd nearly 3000acs this year in southern Queensland & northern New South Wales running a JD 9996 & 9970 pickers and a Case 7240 & 7220 on the boll buggeis and 3 40ft moudlue builders. I run the 7240 & buggy picking up off the 9996. The last pic is of 3 250hp Volvo moters that are coupled to big floodlifting pumps that are mountd about 20ft down those cement pipes that they use to harvest water out of the river. First time we have pickd on that farm and i forget how big it is but those moters are numberd Q, R $ S so they must have 16 others around the farm some where. Only took pics on my phone so sorry about quailty

Looks like a 5 row picker. So how many row planter is used? Or do they go by ft. of width or what? I'm completely green when it comes to cotton. No pun intended.

No we have hills just not there. Almost all our cotton is flood irrigated so its growen on the flat in laser leveld paddocks. That country in the pics is Marganal land that with out the water would only grow winter crops like oats wheat barley & chick pea and grazing land for cows and sheep. I will have to get you some pics of around our farm though our hills arint reall big just here

Thanks for sharing. One thing I really like about this board is the different farming operations, techniques, and problems faced by my fellow farmers.

They are 4 row pickers set at 40" rows all cotton is growen in thats spacing. Most row crop work is in that spacing but 36 & 30" are also used in some places for corn beans sorghum and such. Most planters are 8 row with sum stack fold 12 rows around set on 40" with 36" units being 8 or 6 row

In northeast Arkansas theyve started buying the cotton picker that the round bails comes out the back of picker one farmer bought 3 of them, some of there crops make 3 bail to an acre and farm 8 thousand acres.I also read there was a company in Calfornia that had placed an order for 1000 cotton pickers at one time. It was in the Dallas Mornning news several years ago.hope you have a good crop.Rick

DUF, thanks! It's always great to see how others farm! I noticed you said you used 7000 series Case tractors but your picture shows a 2000 series Case tractor in the US more specific something like a a 2290 or such. I love it keepem coming!!!

DUF, I'm due to retire in the next couple years and your country is on my bucket list to visit then if my health holds up and it appears to be very fascinating, I'm not interested in lots of vast wasteland but I like big farms and ranches, most people can't fathom the vast open area that is Australia. Right now you should be in your early spring or late winter season and we're going into the opposite. Let's stay in touch. CT
