I Know its off topic but with all the wealth of knowledge on here I thought I'd ask. a freind of mine is thinking of buying this truck And it has no batteries in it. problem is the battery box has a red tag on it saying that the truck is equiped with an altinator and to make sure that the polarity is correct. on the firewall there is a black box with a tag on it that says volts 14 / max feild amps 3 / date code 71-40 / system ground pos. looks like a voltage regulator but not sure. Back to the battery box. there four cables three black and one red, there seems to be a parralell switch be hind the battery box it seems to be square in the center and both ends are rounded. the red cable goes to the center and one black cable goes to each end the third black cable goes to body ground. Anyone ever have any experence with this truck?? It is a 1953 white chassis model no.9400 td s/n 673500 or could anyone tell me where I can get a manuale or information on this beast. need a diagram to hook up the batteries
thank you Jerry

I am guessing that it has a diesel engine? If so it may start on 24 volts and then run on 12 volts. Also it probably came from the factory with 4 6 volt batteries hooked in series to achieve proper cranking amps.

Yes it has a diesel engine but the battery box looks a bit small for four six volt batteries
two twelve volt seems better

If no definite reply comes in Google White Truck club or White truck forum (classicwhitetrucks.com??) or post on aths.org (?)
(Antique Truck Hist Soc.--good bunch of helpful guys, there'll be White owners/operators who'll help). Good luck.

yes, that is a series paralell switch and the truck came equiped with a 24 volt starter.its been too long since i wired one so cant help you there

Don't know about the trucks but 55 and 56 when cars started using 12 volt batteries. Tractors before that used 2 6 volt to make the 12 volts
