I was very, very lucky to get to go with my Dad and a friend from Lincoln, IL this past week to visit the various War Memorials in Washington, DC.
More pictures tomorrow.

Kruser,

That is wonderful that you were able to accompany your dad and the other veterans on the flight. I don't have any immediate family left who served during WWII, but there's an Honor Flight going out of Nashville on Wednesday.

This is a great way for us to honor "The Greatest Generation".

About a year ago, my wife and I were at Reagan waiting to board a plane to Omaha when they announced an Honor Flight was arriving from Atlanta.

It was awesome!! Almost all activity in the airport ceased. They even held up boarding our plane until all the vets had deplaned. When the vets walked into the airport, the whole area erupted in cheers.

Everyone should make at least one trip to our nation's capital. I've been there half a dozen times and look forward to taking our granddaughters there in a couple of years.

Those guys deserve more respect than we will ever be able to show them. My hat is off to them. Certainly by far the Greatest Generation. Bob

Wish my dad was still around to see the respect for WWII vets that is now showing. He was one of the oldest enlisted man in the Navy, served his country well, and passed on before it became appropriate to recognize these fine patriots for their sacrifices. He just came home, and tried to get on with life, raise a family, and survive some pretty tough times. No resting on his laurels. Rarely spoke of his years in the service.
