New Alternator pulley issue - reused old one

Got a new Delco alternator for my tractor today, After I installed it was checking the fan belt and realized I could turn the alternator fan, pulley and shaft all seperately. Figred at first the must not have tightened the nut correctly in case you needed to switch pulleys - but it was torqued down.
Wrench and allen wrench socket on ratchet wouldnt tighten or break it loose... used half inch impact wrench to bump it loose on about the 20th try.
After wasting a half hour trying to figure it out- (it wasnt that the nut ran out of threads or was damaged) took pulley assembly off old Pontiac alternator I was taking off, installed it and everything worked pefectlly.
Was just glad I caught it before it caused any weird problems - the pulley would be turning on the shaft without turning the alterator at times.

Some pulleys need a spacer to tighten them up. Also you can get many different armature shafts that have different shoulders on them. I alway like to get my old one repaired, if possible, because of these problems.
