Rare Cornpicker

Saw this last weekend at Carstens Farmstead days in Shelby Iowa. It is a Wyde Tred Universal that was assembled in Persia Iowa. It is the only known one left. I thought it was pretty neat on a wide front tractor. The man that had it there said his father bought it in 1958 or 59 they used it only one year and put it in a shed.

Didn't someone here ask if they could mount a picker on a 350 utility IHC tractor? I guess we were wrong, there was one model made that would fit!

I"m not suprised they only ran it one year because anyone who"s ran a mounted picker especially with open elevators will get tons of trash and with sitting that low it would be like sitting in a tub of trash in a couple hours and with side dismounting you sure wouldn"t want to leave the machine running while dismounting.I"m not sure the noise would be any worse because that was an inherent trait of all of them. Still it does look novel.

He did run it (not in corn) and it wasnt too loud as it has alot of belts. The husking beds are enclosed so that would help some with dust but I bet it wouldnt be like running a combine with a nice cab.

We had a JD 227 on a JD-B and on a JD-70, we also had a JD 237 on a JD-4020. I wouldn't even want to attempt to run that one WOW ! Thanks for the pictures, that is different.

I spent many hours as a teenager on a Farmall M with a mounted picker. I loved running that thing! I don't think I'd enjoy the combination in your pics!
