OT: What brand weight transfer hitch do you own?

What brand weight transfer hitch do you own and would you buy a different one?

30 years ago my father had a 75 New Yorker and he would pull a 28 ft camper trailer to Texas every winter. Back then Reese was the gold standard. I have noticed there are more brands to choose from. Which ones should I stay away from?

I have a Reese and an Equalizer brand. I have used both for more than 30 years. The Equalizer brand is a far superior product for sway control and bounce control. The Reese is probably easier to attach and set to different tensions according to the amount of weight on the trailer, or how bad the road is. So I have used the Equalizer on my 27 ft travel trailer as it has a pretty consistent weight, and I use the Reese on my tow behind equipment trailer, which may be empty or loaded to its 12,000 lb capacity. There are no parts which are interchangable between the 2 brands, so buy a complete unit. With this economy and it being near the end of the RV season, you can probably get a used one for less than 1/2 of new price. Because we change tow vehicles more often than trailers and hitches, buy either make with the adjustable height ball mount, not the welded one.

Either one of these units will improve your towing safety and comfort. Do not leave home without it.
