international b275 gear box

my b 275 is steering very hard I suspect it could be the gear box. Is it a big job to get this gear box out? and if the gear box needs bearings etc. where will I be able to find them? Thank You Jay Brady
 
Did you disconnect the spindles and see if they are siezed in the tube? I would look at that first. We once had a massey that would not turn at all. That was the problem. We had to heat the hell out of the axle tube to get it to take grease.

B-275 manual steering box is one of the few weak points on the tractor. There are plenty of brand new boxes around at not too bad a price. I bought two recently. Seems Mahindra still makes them, thus the reason why they are available new. I paid $179 for the first new one. I can't recall what the second cost, but I know the price had gone up.

I can't recall the name of the place off hand tha sells them , but the place is down south and they aderstise all the time on Ebay. Just do a search for "B275." I also bought several new OEM steering wheels from the same place.

Note also that many have put power steering on B-275s. I have one with it. I bought the entire setup for $50 on Ebay, which is one of those rare good deals. Most on Ebay is a rip-off.
 
Have you bumped anything with the tractor? On those B series if the front axle has rotated in its shafts then you could be trying to steer a tractor whose spindles are not 90* to the level ground.That"s come up here before. If the axle has rotated then you are increasing the weight on the spindles and the steering arm making it difficult if not impossible to steer.
 
Hi Jay, I agree with the other posts also the top plastic bush under the steering wheel wears and lets water into the box. Here in the UK Sparex can supply a new steering box under the part number S7882 so you should also be able to get one your side of the pond. MJ
