I have an IH Farmall 400 gas powered tractor that I would like to know its manufacture year.

The serial number is:1183; And it appears to have either a 5 or an upper case S stamped a little off to the right and a little lower than the rest of the numers.

Also I have had a problem wwhere I have had basically no throttle controll on this tractor; I have had the carb. rebuilt and adjusted on the throttle linkage to no avail.

Could this be a governor problem, and if as; What can I do to fix it?

Hi Jakw: The numbers start at 501 ( If I remember right, as did Letter series)
So 1183 minus 501 makes yours the 682 400 built. Had to be a very late 1954 since Mostly Super M-TA were 1954.. Wish I could find my Guy Fay Data book.. . ag

No throttle variation after reinstalling the carb means you did not align the governor tang properly with the slot on the end of the butterfly throttle shaft in the carb. Take the carb off and do it right.

I have a '54 400 (serial 520) also. All your casting codes should end with a "Z". You probably have six-hole rear wheels vs the later eight-hole wheels.
