Confirm my farmal Cub fuel supply problem

hi, i have a farmall cub with a fuel problem that i'm trying to fix. it has a leaky float bowl outlet line, i replaced float bowl with new one (brand new) i went to crank engine over, it runs for 30 seconds then stops, it is like it is starving for fuel but when i let is sit for a couple of min the carb becomes flooded with fuel?

after getting cheesed off and walking away i thought it might be a stuck float in the carb, it could be jammed open a little as to let out some fuel and after a while of sitting does not shut off and gas just flows - who else would think this or is it somethimg realy simple that i am missing?

What condition is the inside of the tank like? What did the fuel in the old fuel bowl look like? Have you removed the line from the fuel bowl to the carb to see if there is anything stuck in it? Just a few things to check. But also agree that float and needle valve may be hanging up.

you say the outlet line is leaking --- It probably starts sucking air , causing it to stall sounds like you either have the float level set wrong or the needle valve needs taken out and cleaned -- check the seat for dirt when ya got it out .

There is no such thing as a float bowl. There is a fuel bowl, which is part of the carburetor, and there is a sediment bowl, located under the fuel tank. Which one did you replace?

Kootney Cub,
Take the glass bulb off of the bottom of the tank. Turn the fuel valve on and gas should run out in two streams from the valve. If that's good open up your carb and remove your float. If it has a brass float here are some hints to see if it's bad. Shake it to see if you can hear any fuel sloshing around in it. If it has fuel in it replace the float cause it's bad. They call this a "heavy float" cause it won't shut the fuel off which causes the carb to spill over. You can also check the float by putting it in a bowl of water and slightly squeezing it with two fingers. If any bubbles come up there is a hole in the float. I have resoldered old floats with holes but sometimes it causes more holes so a new float is usually the best alternative.

Many Farmall tractors have a screen on the fuel line fitting in the carb. Take the fitting out of the carb. See it it is full of stuff. I worked on a 424 once with a stop running problem. I did the standards stuff, tune-up and such. I was ready to send it home having not really found anything. The fuel line fitting at the carb was leaking a little. Part of me said I needed to put some Teflon tape on it to stop the leak. Another part of me said I was being picky about the leak. The picky part won out. When I removed the fitting I found the screen plugged with various bits of straw from years of hay field work. I cleaned the screen and fixed the tractor problem.
