You can imagine my surprise, when I got up from my desk and walked past the tractor! Now I'm not afraid of snakes and suck, but it was rathing startling to see that "hanging" out! Last I saw "Blackie", it was disappearing under the parts washer!

Shucks! That's just a little one!

Good thinking with the camera. When that happens to me, I never can think of getting a camera.

looks like a rat snake...non poisonious but they will make ya hurt yerself gettin away...we find em regular in these parts over 6 foot.

That snake if in my garage/workshop, would now be a deceased snake, hate them. Cheers, Murray(I know many people make nice comments about the benefits of having snakes, but they alway's startle me.)

Ah yes, a good old black snake. We have them down here too, and I leave them alone.
If you let him live, he will keep any and all rats or mice from chewing up the wiring on your Oliver! Once he's eaten the pests, he will move along to a better location. Be sure and thank him for his services!
BTW, I don't like snakes as a rule. I've killed several little coral snakes, but when I see an all black snake I just move away and let him be. They are more afraid of you than you think. If you come after them with a shovel or whatever handy tool you have, you bet they will try to defend themselves.

Yes - we call them kingsnakes here in Southern Illinois. A VERY good snake to have around the place. I had always heard that they would kill a copperhead, but never believed it until I saw one doing just that on a nature show.

They are welcome at my place.

I wondered about the coloring of this snake but was not familiar with the Kingsnake, did not know it could be anything other than a black snake. But after a little research, I believe you are correct, I looked at the other photo's I took and this snake is definitely patterned like a Kingsnake. Thanks for your reply!
