Reminds me of the time a couple of Marine Reserve units were playing war games in some swamps in Lousiana. A Reservise I knew threw a white phosphorous grenade for some legitimate reason. The WP started the swamp grass on fire, and they wound up calling off the war games and maneuvers so everyone could turn to and put the fire out. As I recall, it burned for a couple of days.

I started a big fire due to a spark from hitting a rock once while mowing. It was probably 10 minutes before I turned and was headed back and saw it. It was so dry that by that time it was about 20 ft by 40 ft and going pretty good so I had no hope of stomping it out. Fortunately before the days of cell phones I had a fire dept radio with me so I was able to call it in and get help.

call the koolaid drinkers and get a law passed so we only have fireproof clubs from now on, or outlaw all rocks in the rough.

It doesn't take much to start a fire in S. California this time of the year. Fires have been started by guys shooting at rocks with armor-piercing ammo.

Jarheads seem to have a knack for starting fires. Back in the late '80s, Marines from Camp Lejeune, NC started a forest fire near Holly Ridge that burned over 90,000 acres of pines. Smoke was visible all the way to Jacksonville, Florida, several hundred miles away. Most of the burned land belonged to Weyerhauser, who probably could have collected damages from the government. Instead, they just wrote it all off. It probably didn't hurt that the Marines sent almost all their firefighting equipment and hundreds of jarheads to fight the fire.
