Brakes on grain truck

Just had my booster brakes repaired on grain truck. I noticed that vacuum gauge would drop down when the truck's speed would even out at 55 mph. As soon as I let off he accelerator the pressure would return to normal. I am not familar with this system. Is the cause for alarm? Thank you.

Ain't you never watched a vacuum gauge on a vehicle before?

That being said, you MAY have a bad check valve or a vacuum leak after the check valve for the brake booster system.

OR, simply a gauge plumbed in ahead of the check valve.

Better have someone familiar with the system check it out.

Vacuum is going to be low when the throttle is open the most, and when you let off the throttle, the vacuum should increase again. Makes you wonder who came up with the idea for vacuum wipers.

What you describe indicates the vacuum check valve between the intake manifold and the brake booster is not working.

The brake vacuum gage should remain rock steady regardless of engine load - it should only drop when you apply the brakes.

That said, GET IT FIXED NOW! Emergency stopping loaded truck with weak vacuum in the booster can be terrifying - and dangerous - experience. (Been there, done that...)
