It's Really True!!

Just got home from Bonneville! After reading some of the posts on here I got to thinking about speeding up my old Honda CT90, and I started fooling around with my gear ratios. I had a really small sprocket custom made for the rear and I mean the thing came alive! I did have to roll it down the long hill in front of my house because it had to get going about 30mph before I could drop it in first but man what a ride!! Could not say for sure how fast it would go, the speedo only goes to 60mph and it would bury it in second gear, only gussing it was going about 130 in high. Well, more is better right? I ended up removing the two-speed trans. and going with a drive set-up that is outboard of the swingarm to get enough clearance for the 22in. front drive sprocket. Yeah, it's a little scary but it really flies!! So I headed out west. The result was a backed up pass at 388.6 mph!!! You should have seen the look on the face of this guy who brought his turbo Hayabusa streamliner when he realized all he had to do was change his gearing! ROTFL! I did have to use a push car up to about 120, then hang on. I know this is a little hard to believe but I did go with a fresh set of points and removed the baffle from the stock muffler, really brought the engine to life! Don't try this at home, but yeah it works! Next year I'm going up to the big-bore 110cc engine, maybe I can hit 400mph!

That's all? Check back with us when your good enough to do a wheelie at 350. And try not to fall off before that push car turns lose.

Yep, they say it's all in the gearing! ROTFLMAO

Seriously, I do have a bit of experience with the CT90, having put many miles on one as a kid. On the level, it was good for an honest 45 mph, 50 with a tail wind. The fastest I had mine up to was 55, going down a very steep hill at wide-open throttle. That little four-stroke was wound up. But in low range, there wasn't a hill it wouldn't climb.

Just a little bit over your speed and the old P38 fighter planes use to experience "compressability", when they neared the speed of sound. Had to have special dive brakes added to the plane. Little stubby set of wings and you could have zoomed up to 8 or 10,000 feet. Pretty impressive.

Right on! I really like them too, had one around for almost 35 years now. Got two good ones now, a '74 and a '76, less than 4000 miles oh them combined. Did have one 110 and it was a really good little bike.

Had a 71 CT90 that my dad bought me brand new for my 8th grade graduation....put 13k miles on it in 4 years and never had a plate on it....just cruised gravel roads and pastures. I had it up to 74 once going with a good tail wind, no front fender, engine guard or plastic frame cover....I was floatin over the bumps. It would do 60-64 stock...my buddy on his Kawasaki 100 2 stroke could take me at the start, but I'd pass him at about a half mile. The 2 stroke had a definite topend, the 4 stroke Honda would always search for a little more....
