Raining cats and dog

Fourth of july a black lab showed up, friendly as you could ask for, great with the kids. Asked all the neighbors in the area if they are missing a dog, not a one! About a week later I was grinding feed and this green chevy cavilier pulled into the drive, turned around and sat there, I thought they wanted some thing, but then took off and there it sat, a black and white cat. Came home today from a seed corn dinner and went to milk, there is an all black cat, never seen him before! I'm starting to feel like an animal shelter!

people are always dropping off cats at the dairy i milk at. i will usually catch them and bring them to the local shelter or rescue, at least there they may get a chance for a better home and will most likely get fixed. there are already enough cats hanging around the barn and i hate to come in at 330am and smell skunk after they have got in a fight. if i found the pup he would be coming home w/ me. seems to be alot of pet dropping these days, with the economy in the tank, nobody can afford their pets let alone themselves.

Yeah, we've had a bunch of that in the neighborhood recently. For a few years folks left us alone and didn't do that, but they're back. I guess it is just part of living in the country.

Our two barn cats were rescued as someone dropped off the pregnant mother a road over from ours. Good cats, have caught lots of mice! They're happy there.
I don't know what's wrong with people, if you can't look after it either have it put down or find a good home. Dumping them in the country is no guarantee of anything. Spineless people like that don't deserve to have animals.

There are a couple of "strays" I've seen a few times, none too friendly. I think it's 'cause one of the neighbors feeds them, calls them her cats. One big nasty old tom took up residence in our barn last winter, scared the heck out of our cats, they wouldn't go near it. He started marking his territory and hissing at the wife when she'd go down there. Enough was enough, the dogs treed it one night and I "took care of it". Sucker must have weighed over 20lbs!
