Just riding down the Hiway To Local Tractor Show

In the CASE 770 driving down St 166 To Roseboom NY tractor show. The 770 is too heavy for our twin axle trailer, and it's only 10.9 miles from home to there. The tractor ahead of me is a Farmall H with a JD #5 mower on it. He just finished mowing the ditch and weeds around a barn not in the pic. My Tom Tom said I was doing 18MPH. Couldn't catch the H. Took the GPS just to clock my speed, not to find my way there. It would have taken me over some roads that no longer exist. They're good at that around here.

Is the 770 eight speed gear drive(no power shift)? Was there any option on the trans? A friend has one, diesel, no cab. I remember he said he was looking for a JD 3020 at the time, and they were so popular one wasn't available. I don't know why, they had always had Case, and he always bought new.
I drove his 770 just a little and liked it. His 970 has a power shift.

Bob; It's an 8 speed with 16.9.x34 rears. It was built as a fender tractor, the cab is off a later model 1070. My dad used it in the sugar bush to cut wood and it had many war wounds when he gave it to my sun who was born the same year as the tractor 1971. We had an opertunity to canablize several 70 series tractors in my friends CNH yard, before they went to the scrap yard.

I like the view from the drivers seat! Our two big tractors on the farm were a 970(power shift) and a 1175(8 speed). I can remember what a thrill it was the first time I got to haul grain to the local elevator! The 970 was a couple miles per hour faster than the 1175 was. Spent many hours in both of them. Great picture-thanks-SHON

Farmall H had one heck of a road gear in it! If you could get the narrow front version to handle the speed without weaving you into the ditch...

Nice pic!

Tough to catch an H when it"s going full out in 5th gear. Sometime I"m going to try to see what is faster: our Super H or our Ford 2N with the Sherman in high range.

Timing it over several miles, I've figured my H will run about 24-25 mph in 5th. I'll have to check it with my GPS sometime.
