OT Tele marketers

Seems like 9 out of 10 calls these days are telemarketers and political....how do you get RID of them!!!

Register all your phones with state and federal, "do not call registries". Then at that same site, report them. It works.

Years ago, I just started flirtin' with one on the phone (yes, back in my drinkin days). Anyway, we wound up dating for quite a few months. Nice girl. Can't even remember now why we quit datin'.
Nowadays, sometimes I just start talkin' about dogs, tractors, jeeps, whatever instead of what they want--then they cut the call short and probably put me on their own "Do not call" list. LOL

Red----I know I am in the minority, but I understand these folks are just trying to make a living, and telemarketing is a very tough way to make a buck....

I either don"t answer the phone (if you have caller I.D.) or pick up the phone.

If they are professional, they will I.D. themselves, state the reason for the call. If I don"t want to continue the discussion, I politely tell them I am not interested and wish them a good day.....

If they can"t accept that for an answer, I tell them to put me on their do not call list and hang up the phone.

Our home phone is unlisted and in Nancy's maiden name.

Got a call one day

Caller: "Is this MR. (Nancy's maiden name)?"

Me: "No, he's not here."

Caller: "Are you related to Ms. (Nancy's maiden name)?"

Me: "Yes."

Caller: "Are you the MAN of the house?"

Me: "Yes, until Ms. Nancy gets home."

Caller: click

When I can tell from Caller ID that it's a junk call, I answer the phone in Japanese and continue talking in Japanese. It blows them out of the water.

I'm really not that fluent in Japanese, I just know enough of the language to harass telemarketers. One guy once kept asking me in English if I spoke Spanish. Another went to talk to his supervisor and I could hear them talking in the background about who, or what, I was.

I get rid of them by having my name on the National Do Not Call Registry.

Then when I do get such calls I learn all of the information about the caller and company and then report them to the violation complaint desk of the Do Not Call Registry site. Link below.

Only takes a couple of reports for the word to get around rapidly and stop all of them.
Do not call violation complaint site.

If in a good mood I just put the phone down and walk away.
If cranky I start pressing the 1 button repeatably every few seconds. When the the telemarketer asks what is going on. I tell them I'm pressing 1 for English.

About the only calls I get nowadays are from the cancer society or heart association or such. They get my name from the funeral donations that we make when friends die. I'm nice to them, but explain how they got my name and tell them that unfortunately they'll get another turn, that is if my name isn't called next. Also stress that I'm on a fixed income, and that all my friends are dying, but thanks for calling.

One lady was in tears when we hung up.

The politicians? I hang up on them immediately. Then go wash my hands.

I mostly get political polls so after they give their "we're not asking for money" spele I ask "who commissioned the poll?" Then "Who will see the results?" and finally "How will the poll results be used?". Without fail the pollster does not know the answer to the first two questions and just want to hang up on the third. If they ask again, which some stupid ones do, I just say "If you can't answer my questions I can't answer yours." and that does get them to leave.

Well, I still have a landline. What for I really don't know cause I rarely ever use it. I guess mostly so I don't have to give out my cell number. All calls are forwarded to my cellphone. Don't get all that many anyway but the cell captures where the number is comming from. Both are registered on the No Call List but that doesn't stop the pollsters, politicians, donation beggers. But since they aren't allowed to block their number ID all I have to do (after I politely or maybe it is impolitely hang up on them) is use the "reject call" option on the cellphone. Any call comming from the number automatically goes to voicemail (or something). Since I don't use voicemail or even have it set up I guess they just hit a big void. Works for me...

I am also on the "do not call" list and that is pretty effective. As for the charities, unless they are loud and arrogant right away, I politely stop them short and tell them (truthfully) "I admire what they are doing but I currently donate to Humane Society, Caring Bridge (free web pages for families in medical distress), American Cancer Society and St. Judes Hospital as well as serving on a volunteer fire department. I'd like to help you but as you can see I'm already involved". Most of them thank me and wish me a good day.

Good call,
Bill

I try to mess with them, they waste my time i waste their's. Stop them and ask them what they are wearing, Try to trade them a hog or a calf for what ever they are trying to sell. Works for me when i hang up im laughing at them, and not P Oed

If they ask you for your time, tell them my time is worth $20 every 5 min. if they don't want to hang up you give them your adress and demand that the cheque better be in the mail. Then you give them what they want.My cousin did this and got his $20.I just ask them what company there calling for there name and adress and everything. They hang up before i'm done as they know I'm on the no call list.

If there trying to save you money tell them you LOVE wasting money.

There was a fella I heard about a few years back, quick witted that always knew how to deal with them.

One time one called and identified himself as a telemarketer for whatever, and the home owner came back with he was a detective investigating a homicide and demanded to know the guys name because he was now involved, and may have even commited the crime, so his where abouts at a specific time needed to be known. The poor telemarketer was trying to say that he just randomly called the house, but the home owner kept cutting him off mid sentence with his homicide investigations, really going at the poor telemarketer like Andy Sipowitz from NYPD Blue, promising to have him cuffed and beaten if he didn't shut his bleeping mouth and start answering his homicide investigation questions. He went at that telemarketer so mercilessly that I bet he quit his job afterwards.

By the way, in Indiana, had until midnight last night to either call the toll free number or email the secretary of state, I think it was. I'll post a link to the story in my paper yesterday for Indiana residents.

Register By Midnight Last Night In Indiana

Great idea. I did that years ago a few times. I asked them for a billing account number, and they said would be my new account number once I establish an account. I'd say, "No, I want your account number to bill back my time for consulting", and always tossed out some astronomically high fee like $20 per half minute, and they'd always just hangup on me.

I forgot about that, but you have a point. Anymore I just have the bell turned down and only use the house phone for outbound only because everyone I know calls me on my cell, which I have registered on the "Do Not Call List".

I got on the do not call list. I tried talking dirty to them, but some of them liked it. Preverts....

Maybe if you say something intelligent or maybe tell one of Bush's accomplishments.

How's about you starting an intelligent conversation, then I"ll answer intelligently. For now, go back to your Va state trooper, and just take the test!

I heard a comedy bit one time where the guy gets a call from a telemarketer. He acts as though he's an investigator and tells the telemarketer that he has just called a murder scene. He proceeds to interrogate the telemarketer and keeps him on the phone by telling him that the call had been traced and if he hung up he would be arrested and questioned further about the deceased. The telemarketer was sputtering and stammering all over the place. It's hilarious.

One way is to say "just a minute" then put the phone down and walk away. Or tell them it's not a convenient time and ask for their home number so you can call them later.

a friend of mine tells this about his brother in law.
