Wiring for JD 4010 24 volt diesel starter

Thanks to the person who sent me the starter diagram. Sadley, I have no idea how use it? What I really need is a picture of the starter on a 4010 so I can see what wires are hooked to where. I'm not much of a mechanic, but hopefully I can get this figured out, and it is the starter, and not something else. I have allot to do, but my tractor just quit starting. Also, it suddenly would not steer to one side?
 
convert that tractor to 12 volt!in the long run 12volt will be lots more troublefree-and simpler.We had a 4010 that got converted,best thing we ever did to it!
 
Put the 24V generator, regulator and starter in a safe place. Labelled and kept dry where everybody knows where it is. For future restorations.
Install a 12 alternator and a 4KW Denso starter.
If you don't know electricity. It's cheaper to find a buddy to do the work and purchase enough beer and steak to complete the conversion.

ince none of the responders answered the question that you asked, I'll try. Starter motor has two terminals on it & one is connected to the solenoid & the other to the POS battery terminal cable. That particular battery's pos terminal connects nowhere else except starter motor & "R" terminal of the start solenoid. Hope that is what you are looking for.
 
Thanks for the info, I will go out and see if I can figure out. When I called JD they too suggested I change it over to a 12 volt. As it is, maybe it already has been, and that is why there was different starter/solenoid on it? How can you tell if it has been changed or is still on 24 volt? The old starter had a thing on the end of it with something attached. This new starter has a thing on the side of it with two plug like things? The rest of it is different too, including the solenoid. We ordered it from Pete's Tractor Salvage. He said it was a "pull off"? We were hoping it was the original to go on this tractor, but again I have no idea how to tell. Needless to say, I am not a mechanic even though I have farmed for years. Just never had anything really break down on any of my tractors before. I purchased a repair manual for this tractor, but could not find anything in it about starters? I took some pictures of this new one, but do not know how to download them to the computer. My wife is the only one who knows who to run this thing, it is greek to me. At 71 I think I am too old to try to learn. Ha Ha!! Seriously, thanks allot guys for trying to help.

f a 24 volt system, there would be 2 12v batteries with one battery having its POSitive terminal ties to ground and the other with its NEGative terminal tied to ground. The cables from the other two battery posts (one of each battery) would go to starter & starter solenoid.
 
I printed out all the information everyone has sent. I think it might be time to find a tractor like ours somewhere, take a look at how it is wired up? I can't believe we are so dense....He did say that his starter only has one heavy cable going to it? Sure thought this would be allot easier then it is. Not helping that the new starter is so different then the old one? We don't know about the starter, but JD told us the selonoid was an after market, and we were never able to locate one that matched up to see if that was all that was wrong. We went with a starter/selonid from Pete's thinking we could just bolt it up, and go. Ha Ha!!!!

t doesn't sound like your replacement starter looks like this, but I believe it should, so, what do you have??

Hum, that one sure looks allot like the one we just took off? If that is the side showing from when your standing beside the tractor looking at it, then no it is not like ours. I can send you some pictures if you tell me how, or give me your e-mail address to e-mail them to you? I can take a picture of the one we took off, as well as a picture of the one we put on if that would help anyone?
