Well I'm finally home so I gotta catch up on things. I need to get the chipper going but it hasn't been used in about five years so natch the carb is shot. I need to rebuild it but I don't see any ID on the engine. The carb has the number 1071 1L stamped under the idle adjust screw on the top. (I think the last thing is an "L") It's of of a 8HP engine, and it's about 22-25 years old. There is a needle screw that comes up through the bottom of the fuel bowl and another adjustment screw just above the bowl on the same side as the idle adjust screw. (I think it adjusts the idle, it contacts a tab on the throttle lever) Any help would be appreciated.

How much do you plan to do to that carb? Tecumsehs 20-30 years ago used the same basic carb from 2 to 8 horsepower. 10 horse sometimes had a Walbro carb instead. For the 2-8 horse Tecumseh carbs, they all take the same bowl gasket, and needle and seat. You can buy those parts at any NAPA, and I doubt you need anything else.

I will definitely need a float and needle, and I figure I'd replace all the seals as well. Do you think it would be possible for the NAPA guys to to get the right parts if I took the carb in? The NAPA had some older guys working there the last time I was in, so maybe they'd be a bit more knowledgable.

I don't expect people in NAPA to know much of anything. Just ask to see their small engine parts catalog and look it up yourself. Or, buy from a small engine shop.

I only mentioned NAPA because it's easy and close.

As to the carb, there are NO seals except the bowl gasket. If it's a real old "first model" carb, the bowl will have a push-button drain that have a seal, but the fix is to replace with a solid metal bowl.

Carb kit from NAPA for Tecumseh engines horizontal 2.5 horse to 7 horse, and vertical 5 to 7 horse is # 7-02006

NAPA has a great "Outdoor power equipment service
parts catalog", It's my "Bible". It's about 1-1/2
inch's thick and full of good information. I got
mine free, but I buy a lot of engine parts from
NAPA. It's worth offering to purchase one if
they won't give you a free one.
