you mentioned in your post below that your wife went through the caterac surgery.

My wife has sugar and that will be the next step as they are forming now, and difficulty reading is getting more obvious. she still drives , but dr's haven't really advised any surgery soon.

Just wondering how bad they will let it go till they think it to be time?

I worry about her when she drives , but she still drives pretty well .

Roy I am the one that had the cataract surgery, my wife has been gone for almost 7 years. I am type 2 diabetac, and have been for about 14 years. I drive a truck from Springfield, Mo to Tulsa, OK and back each afternoon monday - friday. Because I am diabetac I must go to the eye Dr once a year. he told me several years ago I had catarcts starting, and they were the kind that were slow growing then one day they would take off and grow rapidly. I had gone to the eye Dr in the summer of 2008, and I said am I a canadate yet he said on the border line late Dec when I went for my simi annual visit to my family DR. I told him to get me in because I could tell I had gone downhill fast. I had the surgery in late Jan 2009. Each eye a week apart, depending on my sugar level I am 2025 in one eye 2020 in the other. I even was 2015 in my right eye a week after the surgery. I still wear glasses so I can read. how ever I can set at the puter without them and see fine. Driving at night and in the rain doesn"t bother me, for the first time in about 15 years I am legel driving without glasses on a Class A CDL I hope this helps what you are wanting to know. Jim
PS I will be 69 in late Nov.

Hey Roy, my eye Dr. said I would know when I was ready for the surgery. It was a fast and smooth procedure. The best thing I ever had done. First thing I noticed was how much bluer the color blue is now after surgery. Like Jimmy sez, only need reading glasses, $5 bucks at the dollar store. Good luck to your wife.

I'm sorry to hear of your wife's Passing.--- My late condolences.

You have answered my question well, My wife is also type 2 and take two different injections Novalog 70/30 and Levimier. on a sliding scale system. slowly getting it semi controlled, but my fear that sugar in itself, is showing inside her eye as well.

At times mostly when reading, you will see her with magnifying glass . 6 mo ago she could see better than me.Now I read fine print for her .

Great to hear you can still be a gearjammer at 69 without too many med problems, I burnt my self out at 62 on an every night home job but only was able to spend about 5 hours in bed till time to go again. Had to hang her up then wasn't safe on the road with all the anxiety attacks , chest pains every day so bad I knew I was dying before I got home guess after 22 years it was time to give it up for me . do get itchy when I smell diesel though .

I could retire and not miss it a bit, I have only been driving 13 years and over 9 of that was over night delivery in a 6 Wheeler for the same co I still work for. Ido not dread going to work, retirement is not an option at this point, I do wish it was, I still might go until 70.
I was a Dairy Farmer for the 25 years before that, I live next door to the house I was born in.
