Re: gene shoup auction

AKA buyer's premium. It's where the buyer pays a commission on the amount spent. EX. you spend $100, and a 10% buyers premium is in place, that item now costs you $110.

that's highway robbery. If you bid $100 you pay $100 plus tax Where aplicable.I wouldn't pay my bill if they tried that and would never go back to that auctioners sales.

Some auctioneers shift a portion of the commission from the seller to the buyer by using a BP. For example: instead of charging the seller 20% commission some auctioneers will charge the seller 10% and the buyer 10%. Then there's some that only lower the seller commission to 15% and still charge the buyer 10%, thus making an extra 5%. Auctioneers that use a BP say its a tool that helps them make a deal with sellers. Its not robbery, but I'm certainly no fan of the BP.
There was no BP at the Shoup auction.

Are those guys charging the seller too?

If so that's getting greedy. double dipping FEW auctioneers worth that much.

I think the seller should pay... cost of doing business, turns too many bidders away most of the time.
