vehicle axle identification

Need some help finding parts for an old car or truck axle. Don’t know the make or model. I think it is between a 1960 and 1990 vintage. It is installed in a piece of equipment and I need to repair it.

Do you know of any older vehicle parts and repair websites for cars or trucks like this one for tractors?

This complete axle seems mostly like an 8 inch ford axle , except the axle shafts and pinion gears are 18 spline. Pumpkin comes out the front, Has a bump on the housing like ford 9. Ring gear measures 8.25 but it is not a Chrysler. Everything about it says Ford except the 18 spline axles. Axles even have Ford type bearings and retainers. I can not find any reference to 18 spline ford axles anywhere.

Thanks for your help.

You might try some of the Ford forums if nothing turns up here. The only one that comes to mind is ford-trucks.com, but Googling "ford forums'" should bring up several more. Good luck.

Sorry for the late post. Sounds like you have a
1955-1964 (62 on vette I think) Chevy passenger car rear end. They were front loading pumpkins, just like an 8 or 9" ford.

They are 17 spline. Are you sure you have 17 or 18? And the ring gear is 8.20".

I have a 57 in the barn. Can you post a pic? In a day or two I can grab a pic if you need.

Rick
p.s. heres a pic i found on google, quicker than walking back out to the barn.
