Boy did I screw up (tractor related)

Last week I parked my JD 401 industrial. The next day it started hard, and was missing on one cyl. Today a week later I did a little research on the problem. The last time I added fuel I added 4 gal gasoline to about two remaining gal of diesel in the tank. It ran good while mowing. I am going to change the filter and clean the tank and hope for the best. What do you think. I pump it in, or I would have seen the gasoline. Stan

We are an equipment dealer and also have a rental fleet of primarily diesel equipment for rent. You would be amazed how many times we deal with this very scenerio. Drain the tank , change the filter/s and flush fuel through clear to the inlet of the puimp. Fill it with fresh fuel, start it and let it idle for a while till the gasoline is diluted out. It should clean up and be fine. mEl

i would drain all fuel up to the inj pump and mix 1 ltr 30 weight oil motor oil in with the new fuel, bleed the system and run the engine.

It could however be to late for the inj pump and injectors as gas has no lubricants.
But maybe you're lucky.

I did just that, and everything sounds ok so far. I guess If I added oil it would have been better but I didn't. Time will tell. Stan

I've seen it a couple of times and it's not that hard to do. It looks good at night as every now and again a bunch of sparks fly out of the exhaust.

I have never put gasoline in a diesel tractor, but I did discover one night that a Continental Z134 engine will run halfway decent on diesel fuel, especially after it warms up.
