OT-price of used lumber

I need some advice/help. I have about 3 maybe 4 pick up loads of good used lumber, all stored inside. Mostly 2x4s and 2x10s, most of it is 7' to 10' long. I would like to sell but not sure what the value is. Has anybody seen good used lumber sell and if so what kind of price did it sell for ? I also have a pile of good used treated decking i would like to sell but i'm not sure of value. I'm not out to shaft anyone i just want to be fair about it and i'm not going to give it away. I'm not trying to sell on here, just looking for info on value. Thanks in advance.
 
A lot depends on the venue in which it is sold. At auction, some auctions are better than others. We used to have an auction house nearby that collected lumber and other building materials and auctioned it every couple of months. I saw lumber go for anywhere from 25-75% of retail, depending on what it was. I once bought some really good wood I-beams for about 5 cents on the retail dollar. Used them in my hayshed.

In my area of Arizona used lumber has very little value.main reason in my opinion is the attitude code enforcement has about the reuse of lumber even tho it is of good quality. Lots of reasons for this I suppose and I don't know why but privately have my own opinion. Any way when a site is permitted and a pile of used lumber is laying there all kinds of problems with meeting "Code" crops up.Piles of new lumber and sheathing on site and a walk around and a handshake and you are good to go. Maybe it would be diffferent elsewhere but that is how it plays out in my part of the world.Used lumber and code and permit violations seem to go hand in hand here.Jh
 
IF the "inspector cannot read the mill stamp on the lumber" it usually cannot be used because "code" requirements.
 
Used lumber cannot be used in a new house, but it usually brings 1/2 to 3/4 of new price. People use it for sheds.
 
When you look at the price of new lumber, it's hard to believe the stuff grows on trees.
 
A place near me sells 8' 2"x4"s in bundles of 100 for $50 - you pull the the nails. I used them for building the walls in my basement and as nailers for the ceiling.
 

I'd say it is worth at least 50% to 75% of new lumber, but is actually worth MORE because it is probably BETTER quality than anything you can buy today. I've got a stack of 2x6s and 2x8s that have to be 75 to 80 years old if not older. When I run a length of it through the table saw, it smells and looks just like brand new lumber.
 
I would take a guess and say that a stick, an 8 foot 2x4 that is in very good condition would sell for 1/2 of new, so about $1 per stick.
You will want to sell the whole bundle at one time to a guy putting up a shed or a garage workshop or something. The 2x10s if they are a decent length should go for about $4-6 each.
None of the boards should be warped to be unusable.
I would give you a good price for all of it to
make a garden shed. Where are you located.?
 
If that stuff you have is clear lumber or quarter sawn, it may be valuable as flooring or used in making some types of furniture even. Do you know what kind of wood it is specifically? If it's Cypress you have some very good wood for deck furniture.
 
If you take less than new price, you are cheating yourself. If you have torn anything down yourself and pulled all the nails, you know what I am saying!
