Weedy oats this year...

I finally got to the field to swath the oats today after being rained out for the last 3 weeks. Shoulda been done then if we coulda gotten to the fields, but with July being a record breaking month for rainfall, that wasn't happening.

Got up at 5 this morning, got to the farm around 6, and had the oats knocked down by 7:45. The oats didn't shell out as much as I thought it would, so I guess the dew helped hold them on. So many weeds and grasses came through in the last 3 weeks, it almost looks more like cut hay instead of grain. Oh well. The custom combine guy will come out next week and run it for us. Getting hard to find someone with a pickup head on a combine though....

Hello Don-WI: Yes.. My small amount of wheat has weeds I don't remember seeing and I sprayed it.. So much for that. Not nice to try and control Mother Nature. Say, those were really nice pictures you posted last week. Could you Email me back to YTMag email? Thanks.. . ag

Don't feel bad. In all my years of raising wheat I have never had such a weedy mess. Besides all the rain I had about 50% hail damage last week of June which beat it down and left weeds come through.

Hello Don-WI: I got an email notice but when I finished and came back to read the email, I got nothing. No more email or a notice etc.. So I'll post my email with slight change to the "@" to avoid spammers. pa25pilot(at)netzero.net
Your "Weedy Oats" topic is right on this year. My weeds just seemed to explode out of control this year...
Hope to catch you in Email later when I get back home this evening Thanks much. . ag

Email sent. We've got a neighbor who asked Dad last week if we needed any straw as he was gonna be doing his oats & barley soon. Didn't give him an answer but thinking not because of the over abundance of mustard growing in his field.

Atleast in our field, it's mostly just grasses that came up, and the alfalfa that we planted with the oats. Much easier to deal with grass vs. other weeds.
