growing blackberrys for resale?

Anyone on here grow black berrys on a commercial level? I am thinking of easing into this a little at a time. I have about 6 acres I can devote to it. Any advice regarding getting started and marketing would be appreciated. It looks like labor at harvest time would be my biggest hurdle right now. Reading all I can about it but would like some real world advice. Thanks!

Can't tell you much except a story.
I worked for an old farmer named George Setera in Oregon City, OR when I was younger. He had a U pick raspberry, blackberry, and I think boysenberry (big as your thumb)operation. About 10 acres. He also hired folks to come and pick for him. My sisters and I picked our hearts out for him - so much a pint. He had a ready market at Smuckers about 40 miles away. I was handy so he hired me to do other things. Spent a lot of time on I think a Massey 35 Deluxe with a Howard Rotavator tilling between the rows. Boring! Helped him bend the cane down and dig it into the soil so next spring it would get cut off and be a new stalk. Mowed his lawn, helped him fix his old Chrysler and whatever else a stripling 16 yo could do.
I was out that way about 12 years ago and the City had gobbled up his farm long before. All houses - his nice house and barn completely gone.
But that's another story. And you were looking to grow some berries of your own and this aint helping.
Sorry
Good luck with your plans.
Boy I ate a lot of berries that year.

my dad and i had a small patch of brazos berries about a half acre i guess...we picked on average over 120 gallons a season off that small patch.'
brazos berries are a hybrid blackberry and they are definitly NOT thornless...they are good eatin tho.

a large farmers market in n.e. Georgia had some for sale at $16.00 a gallon. But they were the large plump kind about an inch or so long which have big seeds in them and not much flavor. Folks were talking about them but not buying due to the above reason. Sorry did not get name of them.

Yeah I am afraid my kids and me would eat up the profit if there was any. I am looking forward to trying it. Need something to add to the cattle operation. Thanks for the input and stories.

Come on out and just pick! Himilayan blackberry grows wild here. Invasive species.
No trouble growing it but a struggle to kill and control!
If they didn't taste so darn good and make such a fine barrier I would hack away. Mmm fresh blackberrys on waffles...Think I will step outside and pick some for breakfast. See ya I'm hungry!

Lots of caneberries grown in the Willamette Valley in western Oregon. Perenniel problem with blackberries is price- hardly ever enough to cover costs. I don't think there are too many acres left in blackberries down there.

I have planted 10 plants of DOYLE's THORNLESS blackberries in NW INDIANA 3 years ago. They started slow but now they are fantastic producers . Large and tasty..popular for my roadside stand. and I do NOT have to wear leather chaps to pick them. They are planted in sandy loam soil.
