Hydraulic cylinder for 7 wheel rake

I have a 7 wheel rake that I believe to be a Farmhand. It can be raised with a hydraulic cylinder but it did not come with one. Does anyone know bore and stroke length for this type of rake ,or do I make an educated guess?

I have a John Deere 567 Wheel Rake, which is essentially the same as the Farmhand except for the construction of the raking wheels. Just checked the Operator's Manual for the 567 and it shows the hydraulic as an option, but does not give cylinder specs. It does state that either a single or double acting cylinder may be used and indicates that the cylinders are the same for 5, 6-, and 7-wheel rakes. the picture in the manual shows the cylinder diameter approximately the same as (or slightly larger than) the diameter of the Lift Tube, so I would guess 2" max. You should be able to determine stroke required by measuring the stroke between fully raised and fully lowered using the crank.

Email me if you want me to forward a copy of the cylinder mounting instructions and diagrams from the John Deere Manual.

Hope this helps!! I plan to add hydraulics to mine soon!
