Hog Kills Cow

to bad he died.My cousin was a little luckier,he killed 2 horses with a 750four honda. He had one broken arm and a minor head injury..Arm never healed up strait but he could use it at least.Happened at night and the neighbor never had his horses pened.

i just hope it wasnt anybody i know from online...PigFest is sposed to be going on in George this week...dont imagine theres a whole lot of riders from there.

Our local paper in Southern Illinois had an article yesterday or today about a lady hitting a horse that was standing in the road, at night. It sheared the top completely off of her car, killed her and the horse, but a four year old child who was a passenger survived.

If the woman had not been babbling on her chinese cell phone or looking at the chinese thing that tells you which way to go or pushing buttons on the chinese radio or changing diapers on the kid or putting on make up, etc. she might have seen a horse in the road.

Know a fell’a that hit a deer at 5 am on his way to work. He lived. Has to have 24/7 care but is still breathing. His Dad moved in to care for him and several of us usually cut wood for them every fall.

I once barely missed a black horse standing in the road around midnight. Before I could get completely stopped sliding past him, a guy on a 305 Honda Dream plowed into him. I was sure I had seen a man killed, but he survived after many weeks in the hospital. That was in 1965, long before cell phones were even imagined. And I was driving a genuine American made '55 Chevy. The horse died of internal injuries.

Someone hits a deer every night here in Southern Illinois. You'd think we would run out of deer. And they are a lot easier to see than a black horse.

I pray that your family does not suffer the loss that her family has experienced.

High school classmate hit one with a motorcycle in the 70s. Saw it in time to lay the bike over and slide underneath. Broke both front legs on the cow, which of course had to be put down. Classmate came out relatively unscathed, just some road rash from the gravel road.

A guy that worked where my wife works and was very well liked by all had a deer run out of the corn and he hit it . Layed him in the ground Friday . Not much protection on them bikes ! He was less than 2 mile from home , 3 in the afternoon .

The one time I have down (in 35 years) was because "I laid the bike down." I was in control and going 45 mph but didn't know there was a fence across the road until too late to stop. As a longtime rider one thing I and other savvy riders know is it is often better to go down then to hit something going at speed upright.

laying the bike down is a more "controlled crash". when i rode street bikes, i laid down a few of em. gets the bike out in front of you so you can get away from it, and it does less damage to the bike. course the road rash aint real pleasant. in the mid 70's, layed my 450 honda down coming off the 7 mile bridge in marathon key florida. bumble bee flew in my helmet, started stinging me in the side of the head. got stung 4 or 5 times before i could get the helmet off.

Laying a bike down intentionally because you think you will fare better that way is a LOT different than just plain losing control.

In control? How much control did you have over the speed and direction of your bike as it was sliding on its side? Is it possible you simply locked up the rear brake and LOST CONTROL?

Glen, that's a great story. But do you really expect me to believe that when the bee flew inside your helmet you thought, "Hey, I've got a bee in my helmet! I COULD brake to a stop, but it will be much safer to deliberately crash my bike, even though I might go over the side of the bridge or get run over by a tourist." I think you momentarily [i:654c4848f0]lost your mind[/i:654c4848f0], then LOST CONTROL of your bike.

No Robby, I don't think I did learn anything new. But I did confirm one thing I already knew: Bikers have a collective IQ that's a mere two points above room temperature.

Hal, you're right, they are different: If you lose control of your motorcycle, that's a mistake, and we all make mistakes. If you DELIBERATELY crash your motorcycle that's stupid to the point of being suicidal.

WELLLLLL, I believe him just knowin the guy! Prolly that's what the "matter" is! Just kiddin Glen.
Probably been 20 - 25 years since I've been on a bike - beached a friends "built" 750 Kawasaki in a bean field. He wasn't very happy and neither was I.
NOT TO SAY I still don't do a "few" stupid stunts now and then!

We have a law here that you have to wear an orange vest in the woods. Them deer still won't wear them though. Deer charged my truck two winters ago. I skillfully slowed and swerved and avoided him. As I commented to my friend that was awful close , the deer ran back out onto the road and slammed into the front of the truck. $2500 to fix it. And the deer ran off without exchanging information or anything. Ins. company did not fault me because he hit me. Said if I had run off the road that would've been on me.

Probably for the same reason some people say " I'm a genius so I know better while you are just an average idiot."

In control?--Yes, right up until I released my hold on the bar grips and rolled away from the bike after I LAID THE BIKE DOWN.

How much control did you have over the speed and direction of your bike as it was sliding on its side?--None, as I was not on it, too busy controlling the direction of my body.Nor did I care about the bike at that point.

Is it possible you simply locked up the rear brake and LOST CONTROL?--Nope.

It appears that you have not spent much , if any time riding motorcycles. With your self-proclaimed knowledge about their dymnamics I would have to recommend that you don't start now, not that you would, as you wouldn't want to be thought of as "one of those idiots." If you do indeed ride and you can stop from fifty miles an hour in less then sixty feet or so when an object appears in front of you (such as an inattentive motorist)--and be in "control", I would love to take a class from you, then I could be a genius too!
