Planted 6 rows of silver queen hybred, this year same as last.30' long rows 36" apart.Planted the first two rows beginning of May,second two rows 2 weeks later, and the last 2 rows, beginning of June.First 4 rows have produced good, but the final 2 rows don't have an ear on them. All corn has been watered reguarly, all corn is 8-9 feet tall.Has been crazy hot here in central Md. this Summer is that why my last 2 rows never eared up?Thanks.

S,all areas of corn need to be planted in a square even on both sides to the corn can pollenate better and the plantings need to be apart so it cant cross polenate with the different plantings most of the pollen from one stalk will go to the one next and so forth and you will have better results.

Sweet corn seldom produces much when planted in units of less than 4 rows. I gave a friend some seed once, and he planted one row about 60 feet long. He got nothing from it.

Your rows pollinated at different times so you basically had three pathes six feet wide and thirty feet long. Next year plant six rows, 10 feet long, then 2 weeks later another ten feet, and then the final 10 feet.
Did you know there is a "Crop Talk" board. It's with the "Using your Travtor"

A city guy asked me why he didn't get any ears on his sweet corn. He then said the birds were always in his growing corn, so he bought a bunch of small brown paper sacks that are used for serving popcorn, and slipped them over the ears as the ears were forming so the birds couldn't get at them.

That will show those birds!!!

I had the best sweet corn patch ever this year. I planted aprox 1/3 acre with a 53 Farmall Super C. Bigger is better as I finally got a big enough area to get great pollination. I put up a good fence and kept all the critters, coons-deer etc., out except for the birds. They left more than enough for us to have all we could eat and froze enough to get through the year.
