OT Green millionaire free book charge

Green millionaire is a infomercial that offers a free book if you pay shipping and handling... but of course there are strings attached...

My daughters checking account was debited for $89.00 for something she signed up for and had 14 days to cancel that was probably on the order form in the fine print - still not sure exactly.

Others have had $9.95 charged to their credit cards a month... so always read the fine print

There's almost always a "hook" on those freebies from infomercials. The general technique is to have a fairly well hidden statement that unless you tell them you don't want it, they will either send you additional items, or sign you up for some useless "service" with a monthly charge.

The money-back guarantee is also a joke- if you send back the unused portion, or whatever, they simply ignore you- even if you send it certified mail. How are you going to sue someone for 25 bucks, when all you know about them is a post office box in East Passaic, New Jersey?

I tell ya', they're all a buncha crooks. . .

Typical of how many TV commercials give you "free" goods is you have to supply a credit card number and to get the "free" stuff you are committed to buy several months future supply which is billed automatically to your card unless you stop it butttttttttt the contract generally states by accepting the "free" portion you MUST buy several months ahead and thats NOT subject to cancellation.....

Caveat Emptor and theres probably no legal recourse especially if you subscribe to the "Freedom of Contract" doctrine i.e. if you signed on youre Liable and if youre stupid or didnt read it TOO BAD

Tell her to file a complaint with her credit card and they'll probably reverse it. It's not that you signed on the dotted line or buyer beware, what's probably going to happen is the credit card is going to get a bunch of complaints and refund everybodies money who files a complaint. John T doesn't know what he's talking about.

Jg. I read on the computer about Bank of america charging $30.00 per month (as long as you live )just to put a STOP PAYMENT ON your checks they send you and you use em.The article was quite lengthly(sp)describing the greed they put to customers.Seems other C Card Co don"t use this, but I would doubt it. Seems to me the Bail out money isn"t enough to satisfy the BIG SALARIES,year end bonuses, etc. Seems were ALL PAYING for the Bailout. Sad state of affairs IMHO. LOU

I saw the ad this morning and it said get his free book. Free is free not how you're hood winked when you order it.
The credit card companies banks, car sales, etc, all make contracts to deceive. The lady that's going to head the consumer watch branch of the government was on Jon Stewart and asked about contracts, she said she couldn't interpret some of them.
So if your selling this free book it's alright to steal the girls money?

Hey Paul, what happened to those comments that you disagreed with? LOL Thread's confusing now, to anybody who missed those deep thoughts.

The way I read (and believe) is that if it is accepted as stated in the contract, all words of the document little print and big, it would be binding. John T has a solid reputation for good sensible and understandable thinking. Jim

Yes I agree with your description of John T, but what did he have a drunk on when he wrote this;
"Caveat Emptor and theres probably no legal recourse especially if you subscribe to the "Freedom of Contract" doctrine i.e. if you signed on you're Liable and if you're stupid or didn't read it TOO BAD"
I stand by what I said and she will probably get her money back, there are too many dishonest online sites. I don't worry too much about any kind of magazine subscription because they're all trying to trick you some how.
A recent online purchase I made I ordered the wrong part because I thought the part I needed was part of the one I ordered. When I tried to cancel I was getting bounced all over the net and never no answers to my emails. Couple days later when I wrote them I started getting case numbers with the only reply being this is your case number. There were no phone numbers. When somebody finally answered I was told "find the right part and then I'll cancel this part", I told them cancel that part any way because it needed to be canceled, never received a reply. I had told them to cancel and I never ordered the other part. About two weeks later I get an email saying my part was shipped so I fired off a couple more emails.
When the part arrived it was busted, but it was busted in a place that was impossible for it to get hit in the box it was in and other parts would have had to break first. So i wrote UPS telling them just that that I was purposely sent a busted part on a canceled order. So I filed with UPS and the credit card and got my money.
So in these stories where is the buyer be aware, should I pay for magazines I was tricked into ordering, or what told me that company was crooked when I ordered a part, as you can see as the story goes along that they were crooked but all through it I was trying to bail and get my money back?

mrs 730 gets stuff through a company called gold violin anyway somehow she got signed up for a program called great saving. it cost $14.95 a month the things you save money on we would have to drive 60 miles to use. so she canceled it.
