I know it's not old, but I have a 5105 JD I am tired of getting fuel leaks at the bottom of the fuel tank.
I bought the thing new, and all it does is mow grass at the church.
It only has about 350 hours on it, but I have taken it back to the dealer twice because the sending unit and fuel pickup things in the bottom of the tank keep cracking and starting leaks.
This time I get to pay for it as the warrenty is out.
I am not rough on it and all it does is cut grass with a finish mower.
Does anyone else have problems with these plastic pieces of junk?
I am about ready to put a metal fuel tank on it and just forget the fuel gauge setup.
I have to leave the plastic tank on it because of it being a part of the fenders, but I can sure do without the hassle of the leaks all the time.

Go back to the dealer and complain. Ask for the area rep if necessary. You have documentation of ongoing problem. Write a letter to Deere.

i was looking at buying one of those few years back...all that plastic turned me away...didnt notice tank was plastic too...caught alot of grief over buying a Mahindra but so far its been as dependable as the '62 Ford 2000 thats been around since new
good luck to ya

If this was repaired under warranty then it might still be covered. It could be a problem that is what John Deere calls a "fix as fail" warranty. This is for a problem that has shown up but not on enough tractors to warrant a total recall. Since you bought it new go back to the dealer and ask the service manager about it. Don"t asked the salesman that sold you the tractor he will know squat about what is really covered under warranty. John Deere also has a program called a service allowance that is for problems kind of like this. It pays as follows: John Deere 1/3, The dealer 1/3 and the customer 1/3.
