Is that shocked grain I see? That brings back memories.
I bought a binder and threshing machine a few years back to play with. Both in working condition.

Thanks for taking the time to record some of the NY rural life for us! I enjoyed what you have shared here.

James; Can I call you jim? ( I like less formal) the stacks are shocks of oats. The Amish still use reapers to cut and bind the grain in small bundles. Then they gather and stack the bundles by hand into shocks as pictured. Once cured and dried they pitch the bundles onto wagons and transport them to a stationary thrasher powered by an older farm tractor (Case Ds,LAs and Farmall Ms, around here, on steel)I will try to post some pics. when this happens along with the big combines in the area. We have a great diversity of culture and technology In this area. Farmers plowing with 2 to 8horses on a hitch, 4 horses pulling a fore cart with an engine powering modern day haybines and balers, even slurry tankers, horse drawn ground driven sickle bar mowers and hayloaders. Next door to an old school Amish farmer is likely a modern day farmer with Steigers pulling 10 bottom plows, selfpropelled discbines, Choppers direct loading trucks, and round and square big bales. You can go for a 40min. drive and see it all. I am blessed to live here, and will continue to share my daily experiences with you here on this forum. Your a great bunch of people, and it is a joy to share experiences across this country with each of you.
