Was on the local news tonight: Two teens dead. One male,15, one female 17. Riding rural road with no headlight. Ran off road and hit a tree. NO HELMETS. Police waiting for forensic report.

Kids today think they are invincible. Perhaps from watching shows on TV like JACK " ARZZ" The producers of shows like this should be held acountable for promoting such stupidity.
PS I posted this with the real name of the MTV show on the TV but the moderator pooofed it because the tile of the show included the word AS$. What's that all about?

Kids have always considered themselves invinceable/bulletproof(so did I,now i'm 53 and know the truth).they just have more opportunity to go astray.the problem here is LACK of parental supervision and TRAINING.My son was shooting guns and rideing 3 wheelers(yes,he had his share of wrecks, but,so did I.they made us better riders) at 6 years, but he was closly supervised and trained.he has become a VERY responsible operator, and young man(I am a very proud father)

I feel bad for the closest ones in their lives .

My guess the boy was driving , and trying to make an impression, or scare his sister ???

Thinking nothing would happen as he had done it before, but this time bit him.

The possibility of an accident never entered his mind.

Accident = An unplanned event that has the potential to cause injury or death.

ATV = Ran with respect for your own and others safety... won't hurt no one . Drive em nasty, and they will get you.

I have heard that the state of KS , classifies ATV accidents as farm accidents. Has anyone else heard of anything like that?

"Kids today think they are invincible."

Kids, what he "H" does it have to do with the KIDS???

Where's the parents?

Around here at least, four wheelers are the babysitter of choice for parents who don't want to be bothered with kids that are too young for the horsepower they are allowed/encouraged to drive.

And it's the fault of the kids HOW???

Couple of years ago, out this way two 13 year old girls were killed when they were racing snowmobiles and ran out onto a public road in front of a car.

Of course, the news article talked about what great kids they were when they should have been lambasting the parents.

35 years ago we were on an Amish farm. While talking to the Amish Farmer we watched his young son RUN a pony full speed into the barn, through a regular walk in door. A minute later the kid came back of the barn with a big grin on his face. My dad and I often recalled that stunt and wondered what would have happened had another person been coming out the door at the same time.

Kids tend to be kids and daredevils no matter if it's an ATV or a pony.

By the time you're 15 (or 17), you're either an idiot or you're not, and there's not much the parents can do about it, even if they try. Your parenting argument is right on target for younger kids, though- thats when you need to nurture the anti-goofball traits in them.
