Cattle parasites??

Had a few head of mine in with the neighbors cattle so their bull could breed mine. Got them back and they all have had the runs for the last 2 weeks since they came home. I usally worm them once or twice a year but has been since last fall. Could a parasite or worms be causing them to have the runs?? What would you recommend to fix problem?? Something I can get at the Feed and Seed. I think my grandpa used Ivermectin before, does that sound right??
Thanks for the input

Can't think that parasites would couse the runs, but if you think it's a worm problem,Cydectin would be better.

Shipping fever, pneumonia, caused by stress of moving and being with strange cattle. Even tho your cattle are up to date on vaccinations the neighbor cattle could have a different strain which doesn't affect them but does your cattle. Best way to determine if they are sick is to take their temperature and see if they have a fever.

Are they losing weight or going off their feed? if not, it sounds like lush grass or some clover or something they weren"t getting before. Have you had a lot of rain recently getting the grass growing fast or did some summer annual legumes come on while the cattle were gone? 1 more reason to buy a bull.

If there old cattle and they start losing weight and dont stop with the runs, it could be jones deises and there is only one cure "lead poisoning".My dad has had it in his herd for over 10 years and only cows over about 12 years seem to get it. This year he had 2. He offered me the calves and like a fool,(anything free) I took them. I hope I didn't drag the stuff my way.
the calves always grow real well and usually he will shoot the cow in fall but these were so bad he did it early. He knows already not to keep older cows,(but they were so nice). I hope this is not your case as it can be a real pain.

2 weeks is quite a long time, but once their guts get out of order, it sometimes takes awhile for things to straighten out. You are the only one here who knows your heard, if you think there is a problem I would strongly recommend talking with your vet. Mine is real good about offering free advice, but I know not everyone is that lucky.

Are you using Ivomec Plus for liver flukes don"t know where you are at but we have a problem our older cows will act like that if we don"tfluke every 6 months

What does your pasture look like?

Could be......pasture with no cattle for 2 weeks + a rain = a real lush green pasture. Loosens them right up.

I guess if you suspect parasites....let a vet check a stool sample.

92 year old farmer neighbor told me he found adding salt to the hay would stop the runs in his cows. Good luck! joe in ny
