1971 ford tractor 4000

my lift stop lifting while using the bush hog. I throught it was low on hydraulic fluid. I put the fluid in the rear dirrential. however it didn't help where does the fluid go and what else could be the problem?

Just talked to a guy that has one. There is a screen, not a filter, in the bottom somewhere to clean the hydraulic oil. It can be cleaned out, but he was not sure of the process. Someone else in the family has done the cleaning. After a while cleaning dosen't work because a film builds up on it. Someone on here suggested boiling the screen or wire mesh filters on other tractors, probably adding some ammonia.

However, did it stop lifting suddenly? He says you may have bumped the draft control or some of the lift linkage, so try that first. Simple things first, you know.

first itwould lift at times and not at other times.I throught the fluid was low so i would put more in the rear diferrential.is that where i should put the fluid.I did not found a place to verify if i had enough fluid in the differential.i was told there should be a fluid gage on the left side or a square plug on the left side. i could not find either

Plug is on the right side. I have no experience with that tractor, but it sounds to me like the screen may be clogged up.

little confused where is the draft control? or linkage i should check. I was having problems with the lift for a couple of days i throught I was low on fluid and kept adding it,
