Drain the oil from the pto.Book said there should be 4 quarts.Had motr like 7-8 gals.
Started out with it on the mower and noticed that it was slowing down in heavy grass. What the problem? Thaks
 

Yes, it only holds 4 Qts...!!!

You either drained the wrong place, or you have a major transmission leak..
The PTO is to have 20 Wt oil..the Trans.. 90 Wt..
With 90 Wt in the PTO clutch, it will slip and may ruin the clutch..

Ron - my book sez 10 weight in the PTO clutch.

I've been using HyGuard in it. That's what the JD dealer recommends, since 10 wt oil is seemingly impossible to find.

The pto shaft seal between the trans and live pto clutch must be torn to bits?
You might try flushing the transmission and pto clutch case. Then fill both with hy-gard. Or tear the tractor in half and replace the seal and re-face the shaft if required.
