Our sump pump only runs once and awhile unless it rains hard and then the electricty has to go out too of course. Out side of buying a second pump to run off a battery,is there a better way to ensure we dont get a wet basement again. Some kind of conversion on what we have? Thanks for any help

It is a common problem around here. Several friends have taken two marine batteries and wired a inverter to run the sump pump. Then they buy a maintenance charger to keep the marine batteries up while setting.

Make sure all the water from your gutters is channeled away from the foundation. The same for your sump pump so the water doesn't reenter the basement. I have mine piped out to the street from the gutters and the sump pump. Hal
