Century 80 gas less wire feed welder

Got a Century 80 gas less wire feed welder at a garage sale for $50...sorta to complement my stick welders. For real small stuff. Any pros and cons on this? It does work.

I have one.. Leaves a little to be desired really (not that I'm all that good at welding) But mine hangs out on the workbench, and I usually use it to "tack" stuff I'm building, then weld it with either my stick welder, or my uncle's mig.

But, I have had mine 12 years or so now, and other than a tip, a ground clamp, and I had to work on the "cable" going to the gun 2 times (pulled from the clamp and wire would bind instead of following through to the tip) it has been trouble free.

Yup. Is that a question or does it mean that I got it for cheap so it doesn't matter about pros and cons?

Thank you...sounds like a useful small welder. I mess with it and see if it does what I want. I do appreciate the comments.

If it doesn't work as well as you thought, you're out $50. I wouldn't spend any more on it if needs anything other than normal wear parts though. Dave

Actually, for what it is,it looks like it would be alright.I mean it looks better than some that Ive seen like at Harbor Freight and other places.Looks might not mean much too.Two settings is not very many settings for a wire welder,so I guess you might be stuck with using flux core with it.Hey for 50 dollars and just one use, it will pay for its self if it works.

I use to have a Century 100, 20 years ago before upgrading to a Miller. Nice little welder. If it does work ok, convert it to gas and get rid of the flux core. It will weld better.

Guy I sold it to still has it. Uses it fabbing brackets and such on Harleys.

It is a nice unit for sheetmetal and such. Its 80 amps so just dont try to tackle a piece of 1/2" steel.

You have a good little mig welder that is great for small stuff but, getting good flux core wire is getting harder to get. I use to make it not now! My job and wire went to china! I would get the gas kit and change it over to solid wire that is made in the good old U S A. Bandit
