Black leg shot - 4H calf

Gave my son's 4H calf his black leg shot a week ago and now he has a fairly good sized lump at the injection site.

He shows the calf in 2 weeks - any ideas on what to do or should I just hope it goes away by then?

Was it given under the skin or in the muscle? Believe it was supposed to be only under the skin.

Under the skin - and that is where the lump is.

Maybe try ice pack, it might reduce swelling.

have you tried rubbing the area like mesaging the area. that should help it go away,

That"s just a reaction from a sub cutaneous injection. It"s good proof that the calf was vacinnted using BQA recommendations. I doubt that he will be penalized when showing for that.

I vaccintated my cows with a 7 way blackleg nnalert 3 years ago and almost every one still has a lump at the injection site. I gave it sub Q just like it was supposed to be given. Good luck.

Use Vision 7 next year. Do not us Aluminum Hydroxide made vaccines.
