Yesterday, I had to call the IH dealer for some repairs anyway, so since that darned 1066 has been running hot decided to change out the thermostat and see if that would help.

CaseIH wanted $5 for the gasket and $50 for the thermostat. What the heck?!

Called into the local parts house and they sold me one for $3.53 and the gasket came with it.

Okay, so I've made up my mind to tear into this thing and change it out. Just not a fun chore with that darned anti-freeze filter on there and the bypass system.

Anyhoo, fer some darned reason, I reached in there and grabbed that fan blade to see if I could give it a turn.

(Red in the face). Yeah, I tightened that double belt and ran fer 6 hours straight without it over heating.

Good news is that I only have 130 acres to go on this go-around and I can get back to making hay. :>)

Was that 50 dollar thermostat a genuine, made in America by American labor or was it China made? I refer back a day or two when a dealer wanted over 100 dollars for a PS cap. My check up was for the little block plug like a pencil erasier ,about 12 dollar, and the freeze plug cover, about 3/8 inch for 15 dollars for a 4000 Ford. WHAT IS WITH THESE PEOPLE AND THE US? In a few years they will be completly out of business. No wonder we get every thing from China.
Glad I am retired, KennyP

I did the same exact thing on a little Kubota diesel.

It only really bothered when it was really warm out. I was getting ready to flush the system and put a new thermostat in when I looked in and saw the belt just hanging there.

It's been fine since.

I did feel pretty stupid.

At least you know your coolant system is in good/excellent shape if it survived this heat without the fan working.

Look at the good side .. At least ya have an extra gasket and thermostat. (If ya can find it). A good late evening fix after parts stores are closed .

Looks like it is getting a little on the dry side. Wish my 10 had the rears set out like yours but everything I read here is it is a bear to break em loose so I haven't tried.

Allan the belts were loose on the 1086 and when I went to tighten them I found the bolt in the front of the head on the end of the tightener bracket was broken off. Tried welding a nut on the broken bolt but that didn't work so I wedged a block behind the alternator so I could get the spraying done. I'm gonna give another shot at getting the bolt out pretty soon now that I'm not so pressed for time. Jim

Put your thermostat in a tuna or cat food can on the stove. As it heats up check the temp with a meat thermometer .It should start to open at 160 or 180.Thermastats do stick shut.Land with out trees makes me nervous.Been to Ohio, never went back.
