ot/ need other cattlemans opinion

well this is a first, we have a bull calve with 1 recesed testicle, he is 3 months old and the other 1 aint dropped yet, how long would yall give em till all the grocerys are in the bag? (iffn you know what i mean) or should i just band the 1 and hope he is infertile? or just has the vet cut em both out now?

I"ve had that problem a couple of times, both times I cut the bull and pulled the recessed testicle out. If you band him there is a good chance that the remaining jewel will still be fertile.

Had that happen and like they say it should be down by now if its coming and luck would be that hes still fertile, banding the one is probably a waste of time.

It is probly just hung up. If you can give him a feel, you may be able to tell how accessible it is.
I'm frankly not a big fan of banding under any circumstances, and this case will likely be easily solved with a knife.

I've seen lots of them cut out. I just don't have the guts to do it myself. If you really want him steered, call your vet. And throw the bander away.

I'd get the vet to cut it out. We goofed up once and unknowingly only got one when we banded a calf. Finished him out with the other steers and found out our mistake when I took him to local slaughter house to put him in the freezer. He always did look like a bull and acted like one too. He did taste good though.

Don't know about cattle but I've seen several dogs drop the second as late as 7 months old.

no it can drop as late as 6 months. we usuallly wait that long and cut anyway I use to do all the pinchin and had good luck but when I moved away from home dad missed a couple and now they just knife everything

Talk to your vet but if I am not mistaking if is up there is too much heat and will not be fertile. I have heard of some people pushing them up and then banding them. They will still go like a bull but not be able to breed.

There's no second guessing the knife... If you don't want to do it yourself, get the vet.
We generally get the vet anyhow.
