i got a call yesterday from our local post office, now to give you an idea of local here this post office only has 20 boxes inside, anyway the womens inside were very excited, there is 1 door and it was being gaurded by a "huge snake", i went down to take care of mr snake, who was it turned out to be a 4 1/2 foot bull snake sunning itself on the concrete approach to the door not exactly huge by my standards, got me a stick and herded mr snake on his way elswhere , thought it was funny enough to share

I love the little post offices. Many years ago I stopped at the Silver Creek post office (it was in the corner of the Silver Creek Grange Hall)- It was all dark, and at first I wondered if it was open. Went in, little old lady postmistress says "The light burned out- you're the first able-bodied person to come in, so could you fetch the stepladder and put in a new light?" Of course I could.

I love small town banks and post offices. In my work doing insurance inspections on real estate properties, I frequently work in small towns. And people in small towns aren't to rigid about having house numbers on their house because every one knows where they live anyway.

So sometimes I go to the local post office or bank to make sure I have the right house. Only it seems in some small towns the bank keeps closer track of people than the post office.

There have been cases reported that sometimes a few people don"t know where they live. Usually occurs on a Saturday night or after a long coon hunt.

A couple of years ago, my mailing address post office had a grand total of 28 people in the town. The post office is still there and is open 1 1/2 hours a day.
One day I went in there to ask the postmaster if I could get some merchandise overnighted from her post office. She said "I don"t know. I"ve never overnighted anything."
She got on the phone and started to call for directions, but I told her to forget it.
In this particular town, the post office is the only business in town.

We have a small post office a couple miles up the road. But our mailing address post office is over 10 miles away. Much like the phone company. I can call toll free 30 miles to town, but the restaurant a 1/4 mile down the road is long distance.

That is funny,

On Post offices when I went to grade school in an old mining town they had one across the street that sold penny candy for the classmates there. Only thing was you had to be in at least 3rd grade to cross the street. remember the wax bottles with syrup ?

To me that would have been big!!!!! Hate all snakes, will not go in snake house at zoo.
