Gotta love high hour machines

My story isn"t tractor related, but could be. Doesn"t it feel good when you get a lot of hours out of a machine? Just bought a carb for an old 12.5hp Kawaski on a walk behind 44" mower that Dad bought in 1988. Mower has been through many hourmeters, and best I can tell it has 9,000 hours on it. The new carb was to replace the old one, it was just plain worn out. We have several of these engines that have 6,000+ hours on them and have never been apart and don"t use oil. Some of my guys are younger than the mower! Of course the other side is I have two newer Kohler twins that puked the cam gear after 800 hours last year. Share your high hour stories if you want, I like to see them.

I have just the opposite story, Had Kawasaki 23 hp on Wright standers let go, both with less than 1000 hours on them. Have 4 Kohlers with 650-7200 hours on them, very reliable. Two of them are fuel injected 26 hp"s and they burn half the fuel of a 23 Kawasaki

We have actually had good luck with a couple Kohler fuel injected 26hp also, one has 3000+ hours. We seem to have some problems with the computer deal or whatever on one. It sounds like an engine with the choke on for the first 30 seconds sometimes, and then it clears up. Thought we had it fixed one time, but it's doing it again now. It seems like our Kohler 25hp's on Z's make it to 2500-3000 hours and then need gone through (at least 2-3 of them so far).

It's not a mower or a tractor but I now have 230,000 miles on my 99 Ford Ranger 4x4. Still on the original clutch, radiator, u joints...Come to think of it, except for tires, brakes, shocks and the occasional oil and filter change I have only replaced the water pump and alternator )

I don't have any idea how many hours are on 3 of my old 6.5 & 7 hp Gravely walk behinds. I do know they were made in the 40s & 50s and are still doing as good a job as my mid 90s 12 hp with a Kohler on it. They've been used for mowing lawns, brush, tilling gardens, & plowing snow for alot of years. Gravely made their own engines when the 2 earlier ones were made. Just cant beat them. Keith
