I have a 42 B that when I try to start it the engine wants to try to start backwards. I had it retimed but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated.

Paul,
Your mag is not timed correctly. You said you "had" it retimed. Find someone else who knows how to do it or look in your operators manual where it is explained very clearly.

Once you know you have the "run" timing set correctly and it still gives you the same problem you need to get the "start" timing on the back of the mag set correctly.

thanks for the quick reply. This is a hand start with magneto. Do I turn left or right to set it back? thanks for the info.

Look at the flywheel and where Left Hand Impulse line is at 3 O'clock the mag should snap.Loosen the mag to adjust as necessary. Get the marks to line up and that's your start timing.Ron MN

There is a impulse mark on the flywheel and a mark on the transmission. Turn the flywheel and watch where the impulse mark is when you hear the click. Adjust the mag so the marks align.
