Hey Allan NE or any GM techs around

Got a Cadillac 1994 w/5.7 LT1 ? engine. On last oil change dealer recommended the water pump was leaking. $$$ almost $800. checked w/NAPA cost 139 +tax. what is the secret to getting the air bubble out of the cooling system after pump change. Have had bad luck with head changes. Pump change appears to be a no brainer, right up front of engine. had triple bypass 3-1-10 dont need to strain anything. HELP CC

many vehicles have a bleeder plug on the top of the motor by the thermostat housing. when filling the rad, you remove the bolt and fill until a/f comes out of the bolt hole, then replace bolt and top off radiator.

No specific bleed procedure on the LT1 5.7 which means leave the radiator cap off and bring to normal operating temp and air bleeds out the cap opening.

As long as water pump is off,I'd be enticed to replace the distrubutor cap & rotor at the same time. The 5.7's of that model and era had the Opti-Spark system and has been known to cause problems due to moisture in the cap.

The best cap & rotor kit for the money that I've found is through Summit Racing at $115 plus a little freight. You don't wanna know what the GM price is and don't even think about getting a cheapie(been there, done that, didn't last).

If you buy it from NAPN might check where it comes from. Last one I bought from napa came from China. Stan

That engine has a reverse flow cooling system, so it's very critical to get all the air out. I found that disconnecting the heater hose highest on the engine when filling helps a lot. Naturally, opening the bleed valves is necessary, too. HTH
Good Luck and God Bless

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. No radiator cap "per se". just a holding tank with a hose out the bottom going to the heater. THANKS A gain CC
