Cell Phone Towers

We have had a cell tower on our property for the last 10 years. Now, the company says they will only pay 40 percent of what they have been per year. Strikes me funny that they never complained about the same rate for the last 10 years. I say get the tower off our property. Any of you have a tower on your property? E-mail is open

i'll bet your tower was Alltel and now take over by Verizon. they are doing the same thing around here.Verizon has sold the service contract to a Co. out of Cal. to try and scre_ everyone out of the rent from 800.00 to 1000.00 down to 300.00 to 500.00 [they keep the difference if you fall for it] STAND YOUR GROUND !!!!! VERIZON IS OUT TO SCRE_ YOU

Tell them you have a torch and know how to use it,scrap is 130.00 per ton here. LOL

Got one, tried to lower mine, told them either the lease stands as it is or come take the tower down. Haven't heard from them in 2 months and still getting paid. Stand your ground.

Get out your contract that you signed 10 years ago and look for any loop holes or "out clauses".
If you cannot find any, tell them that if they want to change their end of the contract, you too would like to change yours. As cell phone rates, cost of living, etc., have increased greatly over the past decade, maybe double the original amount would be in order? If they do not like it, they can come get their tower and put the property back like it was.

They may be bluffing, or they may have decided they no longer need a tower in that location. The only way you'll know is to call their bluff.

What were the terms of the original lease? I seriously doubt you had a year-to-year lease; more likely it was for a set number of years with an option to renew. Better get that lease out and read it: are you sure they have to remove the tower if the lease is not renewed?

Yup, Have one in the door yard at the farm.
Probly 10 years ago they came around and wanted me to sign a new contract. I said no. They said if you don't sign we will probably have to move it to another site. I said, Can you be here Monday morning? It is still there and they have been adding antennas lately.

I would show them this big a$$ed cable, then ask them if they had time to help you hook it up.

About half way up and then the other end to the biggest tractor or dozer you have handy.

Lookin Out My Front Door over the yard. At the road end of my driveway with a yard in between. Standing at the tower and being able to look at my front door and the yard in front of it.

Yard -- (an area of grass sometimes referred to as a lawn)

If you're going to call their bluff, you might as well do it in a big way. Tell them you were thinking the rate was a bit low, and that a 200 percent increase is in order.

Look around a bit first, though. Are there other towers nearby? How high is your property relative to the surrounding land? Is there a major highway nearby that would generate a lot of demand? The quality of your location should set the price. Cell companies pay big bucks in the city because good locations are hard to come by and customers expect good coverage there. Out in the sticks that isn't the case and it's possible they don't need your location that bad.

Dooryard: "The yard in front of the door of a house". Or: "A yard next to the door of a house". Or (preferred): "The exterior area of a home surrounding the most commonly used entryway, typically but not necessarily, the driveway area. A logical extension of 'barnyard', backyard' and 'frontyard', it is likely that this compound (noun) word grew out of a necessity to distinguish working areas from living areas. Also, it is a way to identify the exterior area of a home not given over to farming. A household word in the country, it is seldom used elsewhere".

This is probably on the right track. They no longer "need" this tower site due to buyouts/mergers of various cell companies over the years. They likely have 2-3 more towers nearby that they will use instead of yours.

I agree with what others have said - call their bluff. It might make you some decent $$$.

Also, check your contract to see what they will do with the tower site if/when they vacate it. Will they take the tower down? Will they remove all the concrete piers, etc? Utilities?

Send them my way! I'd gladly accomodate them for a little extra cash per month considering the realatively small space they use.
