Best Midwest Antique Tractor/Threshing Shows

Please give your opinions. I'd like to try to attend a new-to-me show this summer within reasonable driving range of Omaha and I'd like it to be a good one. Are there any long-running, quality, big shows in western Iowa, northeast Kansas or southeast South Dakota? I'd prefer one with a large numbers of tractors on display. Is Albert City, IA a good show? Sounds like Mt. Pleasant is but the focus is more on steam. Just don't want to drive 2 hours and find myself at some podunk local show. Thanks.

It's probably farther than you want to drive, but check out the website for the Antique Engine and Tractor Association in Geneso, Ill.

Lots of pictures from past shows. Corn picking and shelling, soybean combining, plowing, threshing, sawmill, new this year will be horse plowing. MM is the feature tractor, but all kinds will be there. This is a 3 day working farm show, the first show at our new permanant location. 37 acres of corn and 16 acres of beans will be harvested during the show. E-mail me if you have questions. Chris

Albert City Iowa, this year, is hosting the Gathering of the Orange, so, Allis Chalmers will be well represented! Last year the Gathering of the Orange was at Madison SD, and it was a VERY nice show! I would recommend it to anyone! Here is a link to Madison SD show: http://www.prairievillage.org/

I'll second the Madison, SD show. About '04 the national Oliver show was there and so was I. I think Cockshutt is the feature this year. Couple hundred NON feature tractors, parade, plowing contest (ether state or national), lots of older buildings that make up the village, train circles the outer edge of the grounds ( a mile long, I think ), tractor pulls, etc.
It's only 550 miles for me, but I'll go back when they feature Oliver again.

sodly,
The Mt. Pleasant show is called the Old Threshers' Reunion. This year marks the 60th anniversary. It began in 1950.
It does NOT focus on steam, although there is a GREAT number of steam traction engines, in fact I would say about 50, give or take.
There are about 600 to 700 gasoline and diesel tractors ranging from the pre-1920s to those that are only 50 years old.
The requirement is at least 50 years old.
It is a great event.
It starts with a "Harvest Parade" on the Wednesday evening before Labor Day. The show runs five full days, Thurs through Mon, culminating on Labor Day.
e-mail me if you want more information and I'll be glad to send you some pictures.

Mt Pleasant has shifted away from steam. Still the "main event", but they only have 10 or 15 steamers there. There were probably a good couple hundred or so tractors there last year. Starting to see some old trucks/cars as well. All colors, configurations are there. Odd ball stuff all the way to M's, B's, WC's etc. For sure not just a steam show. You'd want to plan on 2 days for it though. It'd be one long day to drive from Kansas and expect to see it all. Almost forgot the museums. Plenty of tractor stuff there to. Lot of things for women as well. Shopping, crafts, etc. Well worth the trip.

Speaking of Nebraska shows, I like Old Trusty (Clay Center) and Camp Creek (Waverly) best. Are there any other in-state shows that rival those two? Hoping to find a new show at least as big as Camp Creek... and hopefully a lot bigger.

good news, Prairie Village is working on getting Oliver back there soon. I may be partial to PV as I have been a director and president for the association and have attended since I was kid, PV is a nice show this will be the 48th steam threshing jamboree. Other good shows in the uper midwest and each are unique in their own way, I like Rollag and Dalton, I have heard good about Albany, Mn.

You must not be able to count. Its bigger than ever before yrs. Only 10-15 thats just the big ones. Ive been there for many yrs you havent seen the pulls. Now the Baker fans the sawing and oll the other stuff. You must not have seen the big Case pull the sled. I find it hard to read your comments about the show maybe you dont go till Monday.

Can you get veenered wood there how about watching an old saw mill drilling a well with horses see a thrashing machine powered by some horses a stea, powered pull just a few of the things going on. Just look up their site some of the biggest and old steamers still operating.

Can anyone comment more on the Albert City show and what it's like? It looks to be within a reasonable distance frome me. Is the Gathering of the Orange the one, big, national show for AC this year? Or are there multiple "Gatering of the Oranges" in various locations each summer?

Sodly, I highly recommend the Albert City show. It is everything that the Old Threshers reunion in Mt.Pleasant is, but on a much smaller scale with a whole lot less walking. There is something going on somewhere on the grounds just about every minute. That huge Aultman-Taylor tractor running the sawmill is an experience all in itself.

Thanks, rustyfarmall. Although Albert City is smaller would you still say it's a large show? I guess I'm asking if you'd call Mt. Pleasant a [i:5f7001f959][b:5f7001f959]HUGE[/b:5f7001f959][/i:5f7001f959] show and Albert City is still a [i:5f7001f959][b:5f7001f959]LARGE[/b:5f7001f959][/i:5f7001f959] show with lots of tractors on display (particularly gas tractors). How would you compare/describe the difference? Is there a focus on steamers... or not... at either one?
