OT what kind of primer

OT - I'am painting a 48' trailer. Have wire wheeled it an need to know what is a good primer with a rust inhibitor that I can spray on. I have all the scale off. I plan on painting it with enamel paint with hardner.

THANKS Gary

If you use a hardener, consider that you will need a flex additive also. Check with the manufacturer and use the right paint.

I used an epoxy primer on this hitch for my snow blade. I then sprayed Rustolem's primer on top of that and waited 24 hours. Then sprayed the finish coat with acrylic enamel. If it was going to sit out in the weather I would've used hardener. Hal

Put a etch primer on the bare metal and then put a primer on and then put your enamel on so it will last for a long time. It's expensive this way but work go to your local PPG auto paint store.

I used acid primer on these wheel weights 35 years ago. I never used a top coat and that primer has held up well. I used an epoxy primer
on the weights and Dupont's surfacer over the primer. I like Martin Senour's Primeez surfacer better. Then I used acrylic enamel over the surfacer. Hal

I am getting ready to repaint my 35' Motor Home and I am going to use products from Trinity 1945 Co. @ www.Paintforcars.com. I will use 5-Star #5414 and #5415 self etching primers for thier superior attaching feature to fibreglas which is what my MH is sided with. $79.00 per gallon plus freight. Over that I will base coat with their Acrylic Enamels which run from $44.00-$50.00 per Gal.plus freight and will clear coat with their clear product along with recommended hardeners and reducers. Big job but I am saving a ton of money over buying locally sherwin-williams or dupont products.I have used a lot of their products in the past and am well satisfied. Google them, won't take a minute and maybe you will find something you will like. I have used rust-oleum rusty metal primers and paint some in the past with success but at a much higher cost.JH

On rusty ships we use what's called "surface tolerant epoxy"...It is very effective at bonding and sealing partially cleaned (mechanically or by blasting) steel. International Paint, Ameron, Sherwin Williams are all good brands and down south we can get BLP Mobile paint--the factory is in Theodore, AL. Once you pick out the brand, then consult with them on a compatible topcoat.
