Hurricane Alex has turned out to be a dud thank goodness. It reached Category 2 just before hitting land in Mexico, about 80 miles south of here. We have gotten winds around 50 mph and plenty of rain, last time I checked around 5 PM we were at 7 inches. They say we may get upward of 15 inches before it moves away. So far no damages here, but there have been plenty of tornados in the area. After making it through Hurricane Dolly 2 years ago, this has been nothing more than a nuisance.

It came into the gulf about 70 miles east of me as a depression on Sunday. We only had 15-20mph winds and 8.5 inches of much needed rain. Now the mosquitos are horrible.

Hey Kip, what are you hearing about that quake down near Oaxaca today? I got a number of friends from that area, wondering if their families were impacted. So far the news from that quake is pretty sparse.

I have just read a bit in the news, but no damage reports. Quake was 300-350 miles southwest of me. Hope your friends fared well.

The media went beserk over a barely Category 1 hurricane, what would they do if another Beulah came ashore right at the mouth of the Rio Grande.

One thing the useless media did NOT say, is that it is not all that uncommon to get heavy rains at any time between La Feria and the coast. And what do they think the floodways were built for? The colonias and anyplace in Mexico are going to flood if someone peas in the road ditch, so there is nothing unusual about that, all one has to remember is that the Rio Grande Valley is barely one step above 'living' in Old Mexico.
The best thing that could have happened would have been for all the low life media trash who were shacked up and drunk on South Padre Island to get washed out to sea. No telling how much they managed to steal from the stores and shops that closed up and were left unattended.
